I don't personally create mods, but I have downloaded 95% of the mods that have been designed and created by very clever 3d modellers, and these mods would not be available for our enjoyment, nor the xlnation website that keeps these mods online for us to download if we could not help them by sending a small donation or as much as you can spare to keep the site up and running., plus when you register with them you'll get access to the forum which covers technical issues and questions in relation to a lot of the mods via there creators etc, Once you've done that, you can copy and paste your mods (.patch files) in this folder, relaunch the game and there you have it, a whole lot of new additional buildings, hotels, house etc. All you need to do is open the Cities XL game folder, go into the paks folder, create a folder and call it mods. The mods for Cities XL are simple to install and you don't have to be a computer genius to know what you're doing. Just make sure you back your saved version on a regular basis. The game saves your city automatically every 15 mins, but I create a second version of the city in which I can update manually so if I stuff up something major in the city, I can click on my second version of the city and load it from my last saved point and continue on from there. There are a few limitations within the game, and the only one that really bugs me is that there is no undo button, to remove the last action. If you visit, take a good look at some of the cities to inspire you to create, and check out the download section to see just how many mods there are to download and add to your cities. The great thing about the game is the price, its less than half the price of Simcity. I bought Cities XL Platinum from Steam and if you check out Cities XL best website (), where you can download an abundance of mods including buildings, transportation, landscaping objects, residential, hotels, utilities, basic and major road/Hwy infrastructure, famous landmarks, bridges and buildings from around the world, as well as dozens of maps from other mod designers absolutely free on top of the 64 maps that come with the game. What used to be about experimentation and innovation has now turned into profit and generic crap with amazing graphics as the only thing to show for it. I'm sickened by what the video game industry has become. But I can't play it longer than one hour before getting bored out of my scull and thinking "Man, I wish I had a new version of SimCity worth playing". I should have known, after years of peddling "The Sims" crap, these people wouldn't be capable of making a quality SimCity game. The game that we were all dreaming about! If only they had given us a quality game. Honestly, I could have looked past the whole online only, DRM, whatever. Why wouldn't ol' Gamer Dad have a decent gaming system? Who the hell are the morons peddling this s#t to us? "We wanted to make a game that would run on your dad's PC." Are you f#ing kidding me? Anybody who was serious about gaming 18 years ago is serious about gaming now. One of their biggest excuses for the limitations got me laughing. SimCity 5 is nothing but a lame Facebook game with fancy graphics. SimCity was a great game!! The original is what got me into gaming to begin with. I went in without reading much about what it would be like, because come on! It's Sim City! SC4 was a great game. They completely tricked me by throwing the old "MAXIS" logo on the game. And that's such a good reflection of EA's business model. Things you'd normally consider fundamental to a fire station being a fire station. And I thought "Yeah, EA can go challenge theselves."īut what I do like is that, for example, you buy a fire station and then you need to pay more for a flag and a sign and a lookout. Then it occurred to me that the only reason the tiles are so small, is so that EA can charge you to have bigger tiles. And it occurred to me that, being on-line only, the only mods would be EA DLCs. So organically growing areas with a few farms, and then a village or two, and a local shop, then maybe a small housing estate (as opposed to setting out a gridline and sticking buildings in squares) wasn't an option. Then I saw that they were taking out the agriculture, and the terraforming, and making the city space tiny. But I'll keep an eye on it all the same." Then I saw it was going to be on-line only, with some excuse that their servers would take the load our PCs couldn't handle, and I thought "Yeah, I wasn't born yesterday. When I saw SimCity 5 was being made, I thought "Yeah, who cares if it's EA.
